Another one of those wedding posts.

You'd think that society would value and encourage humanity to do things with the feeling of love and happiness, but that is not the case when talking about marriage. It amazes me how many times people have come up to me and said, "You're getting married? Wow, you're too young." Or more to the point where they think marriage is going to ruin someone's life. First of all, I'm sorry your marriage experience sucks, but that is not the case for everyone. It's true that almost 50% of marriages have failed and have ended up in a divorce, but what about the other 50%? Going on social media you're well aware of all the hate articles on weddings and engagements. People cringe at the fact that someone has gotten engaged. Why? Because they only look at the 50% of people in divorces, look at their love life, or are simply not thinking in terms of love and life.

What if you looked at a marriage and engagement this way... You have been dating someone who is one of your best friends  and who makes you smile daily. You have a great relationship, not because he spoils you and buys you all the shoes you want, but because he encourages you to work to your full potential. He is more than a boyfriend, he is a partner for you when you're figuring out life. He is encourages you and supports any decision YOU make, and he is always there to pick you up when you fail. It is not a one way relationship because you do the same. You want the best for each other, and are always trying to find ways to make the other person's day. There comes a time when your life chapter is going to change, so he/she kneels down and asks you to spend the rest of your life with him. Hence, be together for a whole lifetime, not just the wedding.

You are thrilled and want to share your happiness with the world. You can't believe that it is in fact a reality that you will be together with the person who is your soulmate. Now, does an engagement sound like a "I want a ring for Christmas deal?" NO. Your excitement is so big that you want to throw a big party and invite all of the people who have been there throughout your relationship. You want to celebrate love and life. You want to celebrate God's blessings and every moment and opportunity he has given you. You dress up and have good smelling flowers everywhere with good food and amazing company. Now, tell me how a wedding is a bad thing? It's not.

Then comes the criticism of, "You're too young to waste your life," or, my personal favorite, "Why would you want to leave the party at 10 p.m.?" Okay, first of all, how old are you. Age is something that measures time. There is no guarantee that you will live to so many years, no, you're just going to die. You could die tomorrow (not saying that you are, but it is a possibility). It isn't about the years in life people, it's about the life in the years. Why would someone wait ten more years to be with the ones they love if they can right this second? Love and life are gifts, why waste them. Now, leaving the party at 10 p.m....LOLZ. WUT. No, you're obviously immature if the most important thing in your life is a party right now. Yes, partying is fun and everyone should do it, a lot actually. Who says it's a bad thing to start the party at noon, wouldn't you be hungover by 10 p.m. anyway? And imagine leaving the party every night with the person you love the most. Every single time. Yeah, that doesn't sound so bad, does it?

Life is hard and I'm not saying love is a fairytale. All I want to say is that you shouldn't judge people based on your experiences or someone's negative experience. Life is too short to look at it in a negative way. Don't be scared of the unknown, but embrace the hardships and learn to grow from them. Love is the most beautiful thing when you find someone who has the same feelings as you. If marriage was a bad thing...then why are divorced people remarrying? So don't worry and don't be a negative nancy, your soulmate and these feelings will come to you someday. Embrace love and celebrate life.

Love,

Elizabeth Medina

There are too many things in life that can make you feel like the happiest person on earth....

One of these things is Frozen Yogurt. I mean, the REAL frozen yogurt. The thick and creamy milk tasting yogurt that you can feel good about. Yotopia has proven to me that there is hope in this world.
